πΆπ Roots of Empathy - Theme 6: Safety ππΆ
Our P4/5 class enjoyed another meaningful visit as part of the Roots of Empathy programme, this time focusing on the important theme of safety. Baby Ruairí and his mum, Niamh, joined us once again to help bring this topic to life in the most gentle and powerful way.
During the session, the children explored what safety means for babies and for themselves. They observed how Niamh keeps Ruairí safe through close supervision, careful handling, and responding quickly to his needs. From holding him securely to creating a calm, protective environment, the children saw how safety is rooted in love, trust, and attentive care.
The class discussed how feeling safe helps babies grow in confidence and supports healthy emotional development. They also reflected on the many people and places in their own lives that help them feel safe, both at home and in school. These conversations helped the children recognise that safety isn’t just about rules - it’s about relationships, responsibility, and looking out for one another.
As always, our wonderful Roots of Empathy instructor, Maeve, guided the session with warmth and insight, encouraging thoughtful discussion and helping the children make meaningful connections between Ruairí’s experiences and their own.
It was heartening to see the children develop a deeper understanding of empathy and care, and to recognise how creating a safe environment allows everyone to feel secure, calm, and valued.
A huge thank you to Niamh, baby Ruairí, and Maeve for another special visit and for helping us learn such an important life lesson through these shared moments. π‘οΈπ
