We are delighted to share some fantastic news! Lissan Primary School has been awarded the Autism NI Impact Award for Education, recognising our ongoing commitment to inclusion and to supporting autistic and neurodivergent children and their families. 💙
This achievement reflects dedicated work across our whole school community, following specialist training delivered by Autism NI and the development of a bespoke action plan for our school.
As a result, we have introduced a range of thoughtful and practical adjustments designed to enhance accessibility and ensure every child feels supported, understood and valued, including:
• Increased use of visual supports and consistent routines
• Sensory-aware classroom and whole-school practices
• Improved support for transitions and change
• A shared understanding among staff of how best to respond to individual needs.
We extend our sincere thanks to Autism NI, our staff team, and especially Miss Aislinn McKenna, our Learning Support Coordinator, for her leadership, expertise and dedication throughout this process. We also thank all members of staff for their commitment, care and professionalism.
This award reinforces our belief that inclusion is a whole-school responsibility and highlights the strength of our caring and supportive school community. We remain committed to continuing this important work in partnership with parents and families.
